Well… Not entirely true. Builders are generally excellent at maths, and measurements when it’s to do with building. Not so much with financial measurement and management (you know it’s true, have you ever had to rob Peter to pay Paul Bas time? Been late paying suppliers or subcontractors because of poor cash flow?  the other area that most builders fall down with mathematics is time management. Now you might not think that time management falls under the heading of maths, but look at it this way. If you put zero time into creating systems and procedures that reduce the amount of time taken to perform regular tasks the time it takes to do those tasks never reduces. If you put zero time into training your team and engaging your team in creating, measuring and refining procedures, the time it takes them to do specific tasks never reduces. This means the time required for you to be involved in the day-to-day running of your building business never reduces, you have effectively become a prisoner to your business.

What if each day you dedicated a small amount of time to identifying, designing and implementing ways to reduce or eliminate your requirement to be involved in the day-to-day running of your building business, how would that affect you?
